You tell me. I'm thinking PMD, but I'm not quite sure.

Reverse @ about 2 o'clock.

Plus, what's up on the obverse? The "D" in United, and the beginning of "States" looks like fine pitting.

Might be a die crack, pretty sure it is. Not an expert on the series (I only have 4 IHCs), but it doesn't look that much like a proof to me IMHO. But, what do I know

There are only 3 die pairs for 1877 IHC proofs. All have the bold N reverse. I believe that this is die pair #3. Pieces struck from this die pair were only struck once and have thin denticles especially on the right side of the obverse. The weak strike make it very difficult to identity coins from this die pair as proofs except for certain markers for the die pair, such as the date position and very small die lumps on the neck. Could possibly be a die crack on the reverse but Snow makes no mention of it.

Seller backs it being genuine. If I won it, would already have the TPG paperwork filled out when the mailman came.

Do IHC Proofs have Longacre Doubling? This coin does.
