This was a neat find by Mike Van Allen of MI. This is well beyond the stage of being a Brockage and is well into the Capped Die Strike Stage. Interesting in that the Cap was Crinkled. Polish-American Numismatic Society Spring 2012 Show.

Wonder how many times the owner had it called a " Greaser" by those less-informed, before he realized it was more than that.

Not all late-stage capped die strikes are derived from die caps that began their career striking brockages. Any kind of die cap can be thinned and worn smooth by the numerous planchets that it strikes. These include die caps that started out striking counterbrockages, uniface die caps, clashed caps of all sorts, and any other kind of error coin that ends up sticking to a die.
