Does anyone have any advice on where to find a reasonable priced sand scoop? I have found plastic ones near $11 but with shipping it ends up being $25. I have a local hobby store that sells them for $17.

Second question does sand freeze solid like regular soil? The sofa has been thoroughly searched and I am having withdrawals...

My local coin shop has a metal detector section and they carry them. Something around $12 ... and here I am 1200 miles from a beach!

I read about someone using a kitty litter scoop, but I forget where I saw that. They should be much easier to find.

MINT_MARQ,

I missed your second question ... that all depends on the water content. You should be fine farther up the shore from the water in freezing weather. If there is wave action over the sand, that will also keep it from freezing.

I got mine on ebay. The plastic ones didn't hold up.

Thanks for the advice. Santa brought me one yesterday, so I am looking forward to my first beach excursion when weather permits.

Those long handled ones are not cheap. Run about $180 new but you can find some used ones on ebay. If your back holds up, the short handled ones will work tho'
