I found this one yesterday and the lump on the eagle's right leg jumped out at me. I thought it interesting enough to buy it. It looks as though perhaps a ball bearing got between the dies, but I can't detect a corresponding bump on the obverse.

A couple hours of searching has not turned up another.

It could turn out that it's just a fortuitous lighting condition, but we'll soon see.

Even if it_is something which would classify as a "variety," Walkers have never had any concerted effort to be scrutinized in that fashion. There's no real reference against which to compare, or even to add to, like most other issues.

Maybe somebody will take an interest to that degree one day. Its an under appreciated series, but that could change. I saw one that had 2 pretty heavy die cracks, running east to west, that nearly bisected the obverse of the coin. They actually overlapped, one higher than the other.

A better image would help a lot.

It's enroute from Florida, and when it arrives, I'll take some pictures. It may be a trick of lighting ... we'll see soon.

I was teetering on buying a heavily clashed 1917-P a month or so ago, but it had been heavily circulated. It would have been a great coin to have when it was less worn. All of the lettering detail from the reverse was present between the bottom of Liberty's skirt and the "line" above the date. I ultimately decided not to buy it.

I got this coin this morning ... and there's nothing noteable on the eagle's leg. I think the lighting and the cellophane both contributed to the illusion. No need to try and photograph anything.

It's a nice 65 though, and I may put it in my 7070. I have n AU 1917-P there now.
