Here is an image from Gary Reeves of his 1865/1865 3c piece. Very nice grade for a nice variety. Click Image To Enlarge

Here is a close up of the date of this variety on a specimen submitted to me by Mike Pluff of Michigan at the Michigan State Numismatic Society Spring 2012 Convention.

Neat coin. On top of the doubling it has many die cracks on the reverse. And is that die clash to the right of the "III" and over the 2nd and 3rd "I"?

PNGuy, That reverse die looks like it was ready to go anytime. Yes that is a clash. Here is an overlay that shows the two main areas of clash are the from the fields above and below the lower end of the ribbon. You can also see very faint traces of Miss Liberty's chin and neck and perhaps with almost a bit if imagination, additional features of her profile. Click Image To Enlarge

I love the Three Cent Nickel series partly because of things like this, cool clashes, die cracks, Cuds, etc. and quite a few overdates. This one is beautiful.

Ken, Here's one I bought few months back, the ebay seller said it was a RPD, I notice afterward that it wasn't but kept it for the cool clashes and die breaks on the reverse.

Another nice variety, Ken. I had one of the 1865 3CN RPD once upon a time, now I have 1881 3CN RPD-001 in my 7070 Type collection. The 1881 RPD-001 is not attributed in the Cherrypicker Guide or through PCGS yet, but it is blatantly obvious.

macmercury, That is a nice coin! oih8w8, how about posting an image. You may be the one to get it into CPG if strong enough.
