Just the other day I was looking at a bunch of 1857 Flying Eagles that were from the 57th St Hoard and everyone I looked at had green spots on them that appear to be PVC.

Thanks Gyrene and Dave. I've wanted to give this one a dip in acetone for awhile, but never seem to get around to it. As far as any of it eating away at it, this coin has been in my possession for 25+ years now with the same green "goo". So, I guess a little more time (when I find another coin that may need a dip) won't hurt.

Yeah, I'm quite sure your theory regarding your coin is accurate. The placement of the spots makes that intuitively sensible.
