I have seen die cracks in Morgan dollars but not in pocket change.
is this common? does it hold any exter value over face value?

It looks more like die damage/gouging in that area. If it were a crack, it wouldn't start and top like I see on your coin.

I'd like to see a better picture -- larger in particular with just as much detail.

As rounded as they are, a die gouge of some sort is easier to believe than die cracks. What strikes me here is how evenly-matched they are in size, and how they propagate from roughly the same points on the stars, yet in different directions. This indicates multiple events of whatever caused them, not just somebody slipping with a tool.

No matter what it is, it's too minor to spend hard earned cash to grade. If gouges you can figure the coin with a value of maybe $3 or so. The coin looks like a nice BU so maybe you could push it to $4. Buyers for this type of thing are far and few between.
