Is this the same VAM that I see listed as "eds" early die state scarface? This die would have eventually became the true scar face correct?

The EDS is an H-1 and there is an EDS of that die state. The H-1 has had the dies broken down and re-faced and then the marriage was put back together, the earliest of that die state has no break "But". The gouging though AMERICA has been polished down as well as the cotton boll clashing, lips, nose and most of the hair clashing around the eagles head are deep and very clear. Plus no crack or break on the obverse. Currently there are only 2 V-1b1 EDS or Harrison stage .5 coins known. This is the Harrison Stage-Zero Scare-Face and has a population of 4 examples. The 1888 O Scare face was the hardest dead center clashed die known in the Morgan dollar series. On the obverse, on the devices you can clearly see the Eagles head clashed below the ear and right in front of the eye Ms. Liberty has an olive leave clashed as well. As all the devices of the working die are sunken "where the metal is pressed up into the relief. It was thought impossible to have relief to relief clashing occur, until this die pair. This is one of only a few die pairs that show this type of hard device clash and is the strongest. So the impossible has now been turned to the "IMPROBABLE"

Russ, nice find! Seems like I posted something of yours here or maybe on the CONECA forum. I might make it to the ANA this year depending on how fast I mend from a surgery I had in late January. Hopefully we can get together.

Ken I hope you are well. I am unsure about Rosemount ANA but I stand a good shot of 1 day. If you have photos of the coin you are speaking about can you post them or e mail them to me in full size

Russ, It was a 1955 Franklin 50c w/Clashed Dies Obv/Rev. I think I posted it here somewhere. Run a search and if it does not come up let me know and I'll find the images.
Another coin I found was the 1891-O E Rev. I'll start a new thread for that one. If you want higher res images just shoot me an email to bounce off of. Same for the Franklin. I can find it fast.

Well this one I got yesterday evening, and its already on its way back to PCGS for a re-grade. This is slabbed an MS-63, more then half of my 1888 O Morgan dollars in PCGS 64 are not this nice. Its a case of 6 one half or the other as its a true rarity. But it would be nice to have the eye appeal match the grade. Its strike is a tad to week for an MS-65 but 64 looks to be a real no brainer for a nice original never messed with coin.
