Hard to pass up a nice coin at a nice price. More than I need but I am not complaining either. AE Follis Maximianus 25-7mm 9.46 grams AE Follis Galerius (as Caesar) 26-8mm 9.01 grams I am never sure whether to attribute them to London or Lugdunum. I lean toward London based on style. But without a mint mark or other 'clue' it is hard to be sure. The pair came in at $38 apiece and Galerius appears to have some excellent "potential". No complaints here ..... My theory in shopping is to go for the best coin at the nicest price. But I wish some first century asses might distract me ! Galerius has some brown "schmutz" that will almost certainly come off with careful conservation. I rather expect my brother (Marcvs Oblivivs) will have at it though. He has been ogling my folli of late. I told him he might pick a few ..... I rather suspect he will choose this one. Easy come ....... easy go

Galerius looks so cute and furry on that coin. Is it bad that I want to hug a Roman Emperor?

Your Galerius does indeed look nice and I also think it has the potential to be much nicer. You are correct to assume both coins are from London and you did good at $38. The prices of these seem to vary a lot on ebay atm. I've paid £100 and then I've paid £20 a few weeks later for a very similar coin. Sadly I think this is the only coin I've bought this year so far (sellers pics). As you know my area of interest is now very narrow. It has surface issues but is nicely silvered and the dreaded green seems stable. I picked it up for a very pleasing £22 shipped. Mine is from Lugdunum and slightly earlier than your two.

Ah the man I was waiting for ! The specialist ! I am very glad you like them and happier yet to get your attribution.
Yes indeed yours is a lovely little silvered gem ! I believe I recognize the coin too ! I am almost certain that I made a bid on it but sometimes a little voice tells me to lay back.
Yes some very nice tetrarchy Folli have been seen lately. I have bought around 10 I think. Very hard to pass on

Believe it or not I suspected you were on this one and I laid back.
Methinks two fellas in Gaul made nice a find.
