Sorry to keep asking for help everyone but I need to get the pile down and this is the only way at the moment. Coin 1 Obverse - Greek bust ? Reverse - Urn and staff, some of the legend remains Coin 2 Not sure which is Obverse & Reverse Side 1 - 4 Omegas linked together to form a circle with a dot in the middle Side 2 - I think the first picture is the right way up but I am only guessing As always your help is greatly appreciated TIA

Perhaps a young Caracalla for coin 1?

the first coin is roman, it shows the "sacrificial implements" reverse. I'm not sure who, I think Caracalla is a good guess. Maybe a young marcus aurelius?
I'm lost on the second one.

Thanks for the replies everyone I have scoured the Severan dynasty with no success and those preceding/ following also. The closest match I could find was an Augustus Maximus coin which had the implements in the same position but it was a silver coin. A/Noob, that's a very nice coin you posted but I think its a completely different empire to mine. The 1st picture shows 4 Omega symbols rather than circles with dots inside, the Omega's led me to think it is Greek. I hope you can all understand now why I keep asking for help with my " mystery " coin pile, hopefully we can get it down a little

Okay, try Gordian III. It has that boyish look that Gordian has.

Thanks. I did not say that was the Empire, I said it was similar, but there is no coin I can think of with "omegas" that would make no sense. I am 90% sure what you see is the Ujjain symbol. It could be any number of dynasties over a period of about 500 years. Most have this symbol or a variation of it. Which empire do you think it is? The coin is almost certainly from Jammu area or the Deccan plains.

Looking forward to seeing if someone can definitively track down coin #2. I also was immediately thinking a variant of a Ujjain symbol, but came up short trying to match it. I do see how the shapes can be read as omega's in a radial pattern too, but again can't think of a match. And, for that matter, when the first pic of coin #2 is viewed at an angle, it's also at least superficially reminiscent of a cross pattee as seen in some Anglo-Saxon designs like the brooch and coins (sceattas) below... Wow. I hope somebody gets this one...It's a challenging one for sure...

A/M thanks for the suggestions but still no joy. To my untrained eye the lips/nose & eye of the bust have a Greek " look " rather than Roman, making me think its a " Republic " coin. Another search has turned up very similar bust types for Octavian but I havnt found an exact match yet. Anoob, very sorry if my response appeared dismissive. I had brain freeze occurring regarding the Omega symbols and was far too quick to point that out, hindsight allows me to see the similarities now but I think you might have been usurped by BobL and his offerings I am not familiar with either of the periods suggested so my next question may seem a little basic, They are many centuries apart and using the legend letters as a diagnostic tool ( if possible ) Which period would the style of letters fit ? Thanks again for all your efforts

I think I have a partial legend, but I could not get it to work through and only two of the letters are clear. Ah. more time!

Thanks for your efforts A/N, I must admit that I have completely drawn a blank on both coins That's why they went in the " unknown " pile in the first place
