The S.S. Central America was discovered around 1988 and the treasure recovered was sold in the early 2000s, if I recall correctly.

There was more treasure recovered in 2014.

I don't think these discoveries have anything to do with the fall in spot price from the high in 2011 to the lows of today...however I could be wrong and defer to those more knowledgeable.
