Smee again. 1985 Cent. This is so annoying. I can see the details of the crown on the reverse and its intricate Now I know I see the crown beforw its like the George VI British India Crown he wore. I'm scratching memory whilst typing. I don't remember him wearing a crown on canadian pennies. I pretty sure I can see K.G on the coin.So Now I am thinking its struck on an old George V small cent. But why would that be in the mint in 1985? Any ideas as to whom is hiding beneath Queen EliZabeth Thanks

Sorry, but I'm just not seeing anything in your pictures that can't be explained by "environmental damage" and "the human ability to see patterns in randomness".

Simple test: weigh it. A George V cent weighs 3.24 grams, a 1985 cent should weigh 2.5 grams. Frankly, if it doesn't weigh something significantly different from 2.5 grams, I can't see it as being anything other than a damaged cent.

The whole right side is a crown . Elizabeths portrait runs trhough the middle. Might be beter this way its the way the crown is sitting.

I wish I had one of those overlay programs. Would make the task so much easier. lol. It's ok. I am grateful you all replied and pics are not my strong suit. And suprisingly the closer you get sometimes the less you see. Would be fun and interesting to see what others see on coins. I am sure many have seen numbers or initials and then thought bah no can't be. I know on Bun Pennies the mint etched in batch numbers to test dies and such. So it is well within the realms of possibilities they exist on other coins.

If you have MS Word you can overlay stuff. Make both pics the same size, then stack one pic in front of the other with transparency. Rotate as needed.

Sorry, I do not see an understrike. I see environmental damage. That's all.
