For the record, the coin on that site and the one in Alan Herbert's book were struck in 1964 on Indian coins from the early 1940s.
A lot of fakes and purportedly genuine errors dated 1964 got out into collectors hands and are still out there.
I find it hard to believe some that are purported to be genuine really are or I have to believe they were back-door items.
Now, was India really "canceling" coins in the early 1940s? I doubt it but if they were being canceled by
The Royal Mint, I'd like to see some other Indian coins that never got overstruck.
More importantly, I find no evidence that the US Mints struck coins for India. These coins may have been run over by a fork lift while lying on top of something or some other exotic form of damage before being fed into a press "for profit" but canceled before struck? A real stretch for my money.
