Here is a neat piece of Partially Punched Out Strip from the Al Raddi Collection.
The many partially punched out blanks most probably occurred while the die-setter was in the process of "Inching" the upper die assembly (with gang punch installed) to the proper "Shut Height" (reach) to achieve a complete shear of all blanks in subsequent cycles of the press. This process may have taken three or more cycles of the press before the proper "Shut Height" was achieved.
We can see that the first cycle (to show here) achieved an incomplete shear for all the blanks and that it was followed by a cycle of the press that achieved a complete shear of all the blanks that are staggered between the incompletely punched out blanks.
To the left you can see what appears to be an area where straight clips were created but this side has been trimmed and it is uncertain as to whether or not this occurred prior to the strip being fed through the blanker.
