I picked up this large cent for ten bucks. It had some crud built up in devices and a layer of gunk over the whole coin. A week in Verdicare and a little time with a q-tip. I did take the pictures at different times of day, so the lighting in my office changed quite a bit. The second set of pics are more realistic to the color. Did I help or hurt this coin?

Man if that's what verdicare does I think I might start looking at old coppers. That change is amazing!

As a large cent collector I can definitely say that you helped this coin. The dark bloom that was on the coin pre- treatment is the first signs of corrosion. Verdi-Care not only halts the corrosion but it keeps the corrosion from getting worse.
Great coin.

We used to use an oil called Blue Ribbon Oil but some of the ingredients were known to cause cancer so it isn't made anymore.

Everything used to clean coins in the past seamed to harm you celtic, I remember reading somewhere about dealers during the treasury releases dying in their hotel rooms while cleaning coins before trading them back in the next day. I can't remember what it said they used, something well known like cyanide or? but I remember thinking how crazy that was

Coin went from grey to chocolate brown? I find that hard to believe. Looks like we are seeing the difference in lighting, no?
