A little out of my field. Does anybody have an approximate value for this note? I have 2 cosecutive #'s. Does the postmark add or detract from the value? Appears to be at least UNC possibly CCU. Thanks for any help!

The postmark proves that it was First Day Issue.

Richmond E* notes are one of the 3 keys to the 1976 $2 series. TPG companies do not consider the postmark damage or anything of that nature and will still grade it according to their grading standards.

This is the closest thing to your note I could find on ebay by doing a quick search. It is not consecutive or from the better district like your notes are.

Most of those are not star notes, so those values will be low. To OP, make sure you're looking for the stars when looking through the list John posted.

I found an old Bank Note Reporter and it shows $25-$50 for stars. I bought them cheap from a local club member so I guess as a matter of reputation, I'll go give her some more money! :) Thanks!

Good example of why stamp collecting and paper money collecting don't often mix well. A philatelist might see some added value for the first day cancellation, but a paper money collector sees it as damage. These were sold mostly in the stamp market and did not hold their value there. Almost no one collects first day issue material these days.

On closer review, this isn't even a first day issue cancel, which should be April 13, 1976. Jan. 20, 1977 would have been inauguration day for Jimmy Carter.

Egads, it is only worth 87 cents with that miserable date

This one is a FDI postmarked $2 with the correct date, postmark location can also add a bit of value if it is somewhat related to the Bicentennial. $2-Postmark-Note

I created three sets of consecutive $5s for the Lincoln Bicentennial in 2009, two of them were sold for $60/set.
