Can someone tell me please if this 1958 D Wheat penny an RPM? I don't know that these pictures are any better, but that is about the best I can do right now until I get a microscope. Edited by Mogul 05/18/2015 7:16 pm

I can't tell from my phone as pic is a bit out of focus. Could be you...could be me. I'd need a better picture either way.

Also, if someone could look at the R in Liberty it doesn't look right. Also on the bowtie there is something on there not sure what it is, Die crack maybe?

Sorry mogul - can't tell from the picture just yet. I think you might be able to get the shot you need with your camera phone. Just a bit of focus and a steady hand. Here's a picture of an RPM posted by a CCF member. Note the split in the lower serif of the D. So you see anything like this in your specimen?

The bow tie looks to me like it is just untied. I suppose some would say PMD or maybe a gouge.

Thank you coinmasters, I was looking at the bowtie a little closer and I that it is part of the bowtie. Maybe just a little thicker than it is supposed to be.

Your welcome. It does look pretty neat. The jury is still out on the rpm, but I would keep it for the bowtie regardless. It is unique.

You know, you need good pictures on here for good answers. I don't know what you're shooting with, but I bet you can find some tweaks for it in the photography section.

Mogul - if you look at your pic, the camera was in focus on your backdrop and only slightly out of focus on the field/details of the coin. You are closer than you think. Steady the camera phone with a solid object and make sure you are focusing on the coin and not the backdrop. Using a plain backdrop like you did is also a good move. This normally puts the focus on the object and not print/wood grain on he back drop.
Your pictures are better than average; just not sharp enough to pick up the RPM details to confirm. Good luck!
