Hi guys,

I have with me a 1910 australian threepence, but what makes this one special is that on one side you have the australian coat of arms, but on the other side, edwards (i presume) head has been polished away, and in it's place now resides The Lords Prayer, which spirals into the middle, where it meets an M half in a circle. I know for a fact that the prayer was engraved over 70 years ago minimum.

I'm installing a scanner to upload pictures shortly, but in the meantime does anyone know roughly what it might be worth?

Thanks in advance.

Altered coins are only worth as much as a buyer wants to pay.

Um... a threepence is rather small. How much of the prayer is written on it?

the full thing mate.... the whole darn thing!!

I've just scanned it at a rediculous resolution and I'm at a loss at how it was created. I understand unique coins can be absolutely worthless, but the amount of effort that must've got into this is astounding!!

upload soon

I think that is a fantastic piece, and although it is altered, is in better condition than a lot of the 1910 coins you see running about!

It has history, that you likely won't ever know, but you can speculate upon. I find it likely that this piece was probably made during wartime. Lonely, scared soldier scratches the Lord's Prayer on the back of a coin from his pocket for something to do. Just seems to fit.

i agree with the wartime theory.

the girlfriends grandma has had posession of the coin for over 70 years, in which time it hadn't left it's tissue-clad purse. I'll ask here how it became to be hers when she wakes up in the morning (as old people go to bed very early, haha)

I'm sure it's more professionally done than scratched on by a lonely soldier. The writing would be microscopic, and along with a flat obverse I would say it was done with the skill and tools of a jeweler.

Never the less having seen the pictures it is a remarkable coin. I wouldn't have any idea what a piece like this would be worth. Could be anything from a couple of dollars to hundreds? I think you would have to let the market decide.
