Nancy and Snooba sent me some Aussie coins a while ago and they are beginning to ^grow^ on me Are these coins currently in circulation now in Australia? Which year date would be the toughest to find? Is there an album made to store these? Thanks mila_ Edited by Mila_cent 08/13/2007 12:36 am

Mila_cent:
I believe that Dansco makes an album specially for Australian fifty-cent coins, and I think they make one for twenty-cent coins as well. The coins that I sent to you are all circulating coinage. However some are more difficult to come across than others.
Of the circulating commemorative fifty-cent coins, the following are the most difficult for me to find:
1970 Captain Cook 1988 First Fleet Bicentenary 1991 Decimal Anniversary (Rams Head) 2000 Royal Visit 2001 Queensland 2001 New South Wales 2001 Australian Capital Territory 2001 Victoria 2001 Tasmania 2001 South Australia 2001 Western Australia 2001 Northern Territory 2001 Norfolk Island
As for the non-circulation commemoratives, the following are rough price estimates:
2002 Accession of Elizabeth II - $275.00 2003 Coronation of Elizabeth II - $25.00 2006 Various Commonwealth Games - $10.00 each 2006 Royal Visit of QEII - $20.00 2006 QEII 80th Birthday - $35.00
Then of course there are the standard coat of arms fifty-cent coins that were never issued for circulation. They were only available if you bought the RAM mint set. Some of these are:
1986, 1987, 1989, 1990, 1992.
And then there is the 2005 Coat of Arms that was not released in the mint set either, and you can only get it by paying $100.00 for a World Heritage PNC.

From Snooba's lists, I have spares of all the coins in the 1st list. Let me know if you want any of these. I also have spares of 72, 73, 74 & 97.
I have none from the 2nd list as I don't collect Non-circulation coins.
Snooba's avatar is a 2006 50¢ Royal Visit. Queen Elizabeth came to Oz last year to open the Commonwealth Games in Melbourne.

Thank you Nancy, Let me sort out what I have and I'll send you the list. Guess the non-circulated will be out of my collection as well. Except for the coin in Snooba's avatar.

If memory serves me correct I am lucky enough to have the 2006 Queens Royal Visit but quite honestly I will have to go and look to make sure. Snooba takes care of me, along with other Aussies, and I usually forget over a short period of time what I have and what I don't. Most coins are admired for a few days and then put away. I managed to get a Chinese 1997 Unicorn just today, all the way from China, that will be admired until this weekend then off to storage she goes! I might point out I thought I was getting the one ounce coin but received the half ounce. Guess it can sleep with my half ounce wolves from Canada?

Terry, Yes, it was the 2006 Royal Visit 50c that I sent to you in a 2x2 holder. I've sent several to various members, and at the moment I'm frantically searching to see if I have another one that I can send to Mila_cent. So far, no luck! But I'll keep searching. Snooba.

I was so so so lucky to get the Queen's birthday comm. and the Royal Visit comm. both from Downies when they first came out. I had no idea these two coins had become so expensive or hard to find. o.o
Sometimes it's hard to keep straight what coin is put into circulation and which one is commemorative only. Especially when you live half the world away. -_-
Edit: Kittys really shouldn't post within half an hour of waking up.

Forgive me for I have sinned. I have removed the coin from the stamp booklet in order to image it better. This must be Australia's most beautiful 50c.

I took mine out of the card that it came in, but left it in the plastic bubble. The card is safely stored with my scanty note collection, but the coin is with its brothers and sisters in the album. And, just to let you know, there is another Commem. 50 cent piece out to celebrate the Diamond Anniversary of Queen Elizabeth. I believe the official date is September 3rd. http://www.downies.com:80/northamer...&tid=070723T <-- Downies Order link.

Learjet, I received the packet in today's mail! I'm in awe! I love it. I'm sitting and typing and turning the coin every which way. It is beautiful ! The Silver Jubilee is also getting the same treatment. The 1954 Florin which is my year of birth and 1962 Florin. I have been admiring these but never questioned it. What a WONDERFUL surprise ! Kevin You've made my day so much better ! mila_
