I just bought a 2013 Chinese panda off e-bay and when I went to check out the prices for the Panda's 2010 and prior the prices sky rocket.

See take a look.

Why is this?

That and varieties, some of which were found quite a bit later. Check over to kitco numi forum bucket and you'll find a thread dedicated to the pandas, but their are other forums that are specific to the panda. They are not a tough series to collect, just real expensive for moderns. I started collecting all the 1 oz. silver but anything pre-2001 get pricey, a few are not but most are in the $200 range at that point, tough to shell out the beans for that.

The 2015 Panda is the last year using the troy weight system. In 2016 the Panda will be weighted using the metric system.

The 2015 Panda's also do not carry the metal type (Ag or Au) or the purity. Making this year's Panda a one-off year for the series. This has the potential of being sought after in the near future.

I'm guessing the new panda won't say "31.1034768 grams fine silver." Since the size is popular, are they simply rounding up to 32 grams?

My wife bought me a 1/2 ounce 2015 gold panda, I hate the fact that's there's no weight or purity on it.

Only you and 8 million other people will possess this rarity Last years 1oz Libertad had a mintage of 429,200 by comparison

I would imagine the 2016 coins will say 31.1g as that appears to be the accepted notation for a troy ounce

Here's the new "metric" 30 gram Silver Panda's. No more troy ounces for them!

I've wondered the same thing abut the premiums and why. When I look at monster box prices the Pandas are around 12-13k while the eagles and maples are around $8.5k-9.5k. Wth
