I found this in the error collection my husband inherited. I've been trying to figure this one out for a few days now. It looks like there was a mint mark, and it just didn't stay on. It also looks much different than any of the other Kennedys I have. More satin-y? Any help or information I could get on this would be amazing.

Looks like it is a stain. Note the Die scratches on that area? There no mint mark on your coin. The mark on the head is a mark from the reeding from another coin.

If there was a mint mark it would be above the date between the 9 and 7. Yours is a Philadelphia mint struck and they did not have a mint marks. IMHO

Looks like a regular 1971-P which would not have a mint mark. It may have been cleaned at some point judging by the coloring.

Thanks guys! I just got confused that it might be where the marks were on the other ones. I looked again and now I noticed it. Haha.
Rest in Peace

The 1964-1967 mint mark was on the reverse.

I happen to be a girl that calls people 'guys' indiscriminately. I call my daughter 'guy'. It has nothing to do with gender, or species for that matter. Animals aren't even safe from being called guy. And I am learning my stuff, it just happens that the 48 hours straight I spent researching the other coins I have left little time or energy for fully researching this one.

Thanks for the help though. :)
