Thanks - as a young person I liked the challenge of the coins with the "squiggly writing" and no one else wanted them then - so I managed to get quite a few cheaply. Like everything else they have shot up in price a lot recently.

Zangids (al-Mawsil). Nasir al-Din Mahmud. AH 616-631 / AD 1219-1234. Æ Dirhem (25mm, 8.23 g, 6h). al-Mawsil mint. Dated AH 627 (AD 1231/2). Crowned Turkish female figure, holding crescent-circle, seated facing between two stars; mint formula and AH date around / Kalima and name and titles of Abbasid caliph in five lines; name and titles of Nasir al-Din Mahmud in outer margin.

man there are some awesome coins here, very nice bachus...the first two on this page I didn't know existed. and willb that last coins is AWESOME!

Here's a few of mine.

Local cast coinage, Southwestern Syria-Palestine area. Most likely late 600's - mid 700's AD. This is a varied series that has not been adequately catalogued. Mostly private issues which persisted even after the two coinage reforms of the Umayyads.
