Looks like all devices are crisp and well struck as well as the fields. but I'm having a problem with most of the lettering obverse and reverse including the date. just a lot of very small hits and abrasions . otherwise coin would have graded at least MS-66.

Yes I was wondering about those marks as well. It seemed strange to me for the coin to be soo nice on the bust and fields, yet the edge words show wear almost like a normal circulated coin. Any ideas why this may happen? Something to do with the die maybe. Ill also try to get better, clearer pictures of the lettering. Thank you

It's hard to tell but is that a TYPE B reverse?

I'm not 100% sure. The "A" in dollar touches leaf, but there is no space between the "ES" in states. At the right angle u can see the middle leaf barely touches tail feathers. the arrow tips are in front of the leaves and seem sharp I'll try for better pictures. Just hard with what I have to work with.

Im thinking its a 63 theres a nick on the knee of the eagle and its left wing looks to have some pin holes in it. There also is some dings on the rim that keep it from going to high. The obverse is very clean with no distracting marks. I like it. Its a type A.

Thank you. I like it too. And it obviously looks better in person! And decent grade. its strange that most of the letters on this coin are roughed up in some way, but for the most part the fields and bust look amazing! Any ideas why?

Beautiful, and I am sure even more so in hand. The beginnings of color on the reverse is particularly attractive to my tastes. The hair detail and breastfeathers are nice. Crisp. The lettering. . . . I come up with no explanation. They are to the state that I feel it might not grade. And it has to make a "66" to be worth grading at all. Hopefully someone will come along that know what the deal is with the lettering. Even if it had outstanding lettering it has IMHO enough dings to hold it back from "66" so it is a moot point, but I would certainly like to know. Are you thinking of submitting? Jon
