I was tempted to bid on these since they seem authentic and would be my first ancient gold. Looks like someone, 371283813544, got an awesome deal. Not sure how they are attached but seem to be in nice shape.

I am not a huge fan of using ancients for jewellery, I couldn't guess whether they are genuine, they are horribly scratched and if you look at the last picture, the coin looks as though it might have been shaved to fit in the mount.

Too bad this was done to these coins I have bought other silver coins that were in some sort of bezel with no apparent damage to the coin. Looks like whoever did this wanted a uniform look instead of preserving the coins.

That is a shame to have done that to those coins.

Some people have oodles of cash and too much free time on their hands.
You have to remember too that not that very long ago things like Alex III drachms could be scooped up at international shows for $20-25 ea.
Even less if you wanted 100 !

People like to take 'cool' things and sell them to make money.
Human nature.

I hate to see this happen to two nice coins. At least the damage isn't too sever though not worth what the bid is.

Kind of interesting. The coins are done as far as numismatic items but if they are authentic it's still kind of cool.

I don't usually like to see coins in jewelry, although I did have a Chinese gold panda pendant.

Also I would love to own this set of Roman gold jewelry...
