I sorted two bags of 20˘ over the weekend and found a 1987 and a 1991 -both very good condition.
There were never any issued to circulation these years (only mint sets) so someone must have broken up a mint set and spent the coins. Judging from their condition, this may have been not too distant past (and both were in same bag). I wonder what else might have been thoughtlessly disposed of for face value at the same time?

I know that it is fairly common to find Mint Your Own $1 coins in circulation but wonder about other mint issues.
Does anyone have any comments or experience with this?

thanks
Jeff

A friend of mine pulled a 1991 MOR $1 from the pokies, I've pulled a proof barcelona $1 from the pokies, as well as a MM $1 coin or two.

I've got a few Mint Set only coins from circulation, but they're usually pretty dinged up, but I do keep any that I find. Can't recall which ones I've found, not very many.

I've got a few proof coins that I've taken from circulation, but they're also in poor condition. I've seen quite a number of circulating proofs, but usually send them to the Bank because of their condition.

Not sure about the pokies as a regular source of coins -seems an expensive way of finding them. And how many pokies actually take coins now (I haven't played one for maybe 15 years).

American friends; "pokies" = "slots" AKA one armed bandits.

Also, any suggestions on values for such coins. If I put them on ebay and sell them that does give a market valuation but;
1. Someone else now has them and
2. I don't think ebay prices are very consistent.

cheers

Well I pulled a 1991 20c from Circulation a few months back... I'm told in UNC its worth $18-20... Mine was almost XF, so they said about $12-ish... No idea what the 87 is worth tho...

Someone round here will have a Rennicks or whatever the Big Australian book is, they'll tell you! :)

Spent some time in Las Vegas few years ago and started to collect Casino coins from all the different establishments there.
Actually it was very had to find really nice shiny near new examples.
Anyone collects them?
Are they worth something for collectors?

Can't say I've ever heard of 'Casino coins". What are they, Casino chips? Any pictures? Please enlighten me.

Last week I found a specimen quality 1992 Barcelona $1 in an Armaguard roll. It was perfect. The obviously short stint in the roll didn't leave a single mark.

whilst I said the coin was in perfect health, I should state that it had two huge die cracks on HM neck. Some may say that the coin is no longer GEM, but in this case I'll have to disagree. It is a beautiful example of a GEM coin with the additional bonus of two die cracks. Given that these were NCLT, then the die cracks are extremely uncommon.

I have found them on ebay. They are gaming tokens Collectibles > Casino > Tokens
Probably the 999 silver tokens are good values as many sell below BV.
