Here is a decent 1853 Large Cent with plenty of detail, grading XF or close to it. It is mostly dark chocolate color. I attempted to attribute it with my Newcomb and came up with N-1. How did I do?

Yeah, I like it at XF, N-1. The color is a bit odd, and the dent on the obverse might push it to details for me, but not sure. Still very nice coin though. What did you pay if you don't mind me asking?

I concur with the N-1 attribution. N-1 has a rarity designation of High R.2. What is interesting are the metal flow marks indicative of a late die state. The "dent" doesn't bother me a bit. The color is odd but I'd have to see it in hand.
As far as grade I'd place this coin at EAC 40 or a high EF-45 market grade.
1853 N-1 R.2 40/40.

Thanks for all the input. I surprised myself for getting it right.
