Hey everyone, Harmonica again.

I picked up a display case and some books on Parthia and Sassanian numismatics.

Now I am looking for coins to fit a super small budget.

I think all in this would be 40 bucks American. It is badly off center so I don't know. I don't want to buy sub-par but I can not stress enough how poor I am.

Should I pull the trigger?

I think the price is about right for this one. BobL is our expert on these coins he will be able to tell you more.

Well, Harmonica, it's priced right given the wear.

Be aware, though: it's not a Sellwood 78. It's likely a Sellwood 63.6 (Artabanus II), which are often misidentified as Sellwood 78's. I've actually helped Mike - the owner of the VCoins store that has this listed - with Parthian ID's many times (his brick and mortar store is a few miles from my house), but he didn't run this one by me! If you go ahead with the purchase, tease him that Bob L. corrected the attribution...rub his nose in it! Actually I'll see him tomorrow night as it turns out (our local coin study group's bimonthly meeting)...maybe I'll tease him in person.

Fyi, almost every serious Parthian collector started out with Sellwood 78's or 63's (in my case it was a 78)...so, be careful. If you buy this coin, you may get sucked in!

Best wishes!

Hahaha, yes. I've emailed Mister Godier and he seems very pleasant to work with. If I pull the trigger (and I am thinking so) I'll mention your name.

I might sell off some of my MS half dollars to fund this new addiction! I won't be buying a daric anytime soon but for my first Parthian this 63.6 seems to fit the bill.

Yep, he's a good guy, totally on the up and up, and really bright...he's given some great lectures to our Ancient Coin Study Group over the years...AND he's a burgeoning scifi author: http://www.amazon.com/John-Michael-...t_dp_epwbk_0
