What is the best magazine or published guide to get current prices on coins? Is there a monthly guide?

I use Numismedia, but the software imo is a bit labor intensive, as is NGC. The PCGS price guide is the best program imo. You can see prices for grades 1,2, and AG03, and the free trial coinfacts are an easy click through. Yes the prices are high, but I use a fudge factor to get me in the ball park. The most accurate price guide online is the ebay and Heritage Auctions archives.

I like Coins Magazine as a guideline, but ebay is giving me the best feel for actual market value at the moment.

Look at auction results on ebay and Heritage. That is the only thing that will tell you what coins are ACTUALLY selling for.

you can get prices on any of heritage auctions, PCGS, NGC, they give auction results so these are actual prices paid

I know people decry the Red Book and Blue Book pricing, but it gives a pretty good ballpark and is certainly easy to use.

For modern slabbed coins most of the other 20th century coins time ebay Heritage, and the monthly price guides will be okay. For the classic 19th century coins there are no printed weekly or monthly price guides that are real time accurate. ebay and Heritage and other online price guides are not accurate because the prices realized do not take into consideration problem or less than desirable coins such as cleaned, dipped, scratched, etc. which skews the prices of original problem free coins downward. Expect to pay more for problem free original coins when they come on the market.

Every online auction venue beside ebay invariably includes grading-quality images so you can decide on eye appeal yourself. That's why there are so many successful online auction venues.
