With the very much appreciated help of the folks at CCF, I've been working through a collection inherited from my father. The collection included over 80 individual US classic coins and two boxes of moderns. Most of the coins were uncertified, with some of them having older photo certifications. The grading and selling process is finishing up and I've narrowed down the collection to 17 keepers (6 silver and 11 gold coins)...with plans to keep for now and hopefully forever!

Here are the 6 silver keepers:

(1) 1921 Morgan silver dollar - PCGS Sample Slab:

(2) 1878-7TF Reverse 79 Morgan silver dollar - NGC MS64 PL CAC:

(3) 1878-CC Morgan silver dollar - NGC MS64 PL:

(4) 1882-CC Morgan silver dollar - NGC MS64 PL:

(5) 1874-CC Trade dollar - NGC MS60:

(6) 1900 Lafayette Silver Dollar - PCGS UNC Cleaned:

Any thoughts or comments welcome...thanks for looking. I'll start another thread for the gold keepers...hopefully soon!

Thank you too...I'm so glad the coins have gone to new homes to be appreciated by many. It sounded like at least three of the four coins fit into your collection really well!

Could you list the coins that you are NOT keeping?
Perhaps we could submit opinions on those, and perhaps change your mind on some of them.

I like the idea that you are keeping some of the family coins.

I think coins that have a family connections mean so much more. Just think someday passing those coins down to a grandchild or great grandchild. Telling them how their great great grandfather held these coins and saved them for us.

Also .. I think those are a very nice selection of coins to
keep.

At this point we are beyond the point of no return with the sales. The decisions were made after research and much thought and reflection.... I probably would have kept everything but sis wanted to make the sales. She would probably want to sell even more.

The small remaining collection does have some advantages. It is an easily manageable collection that is easy to store and enjoy and, if necessary, would be easy to sell down the line. And we have kept some of the nicest coins, which will be even clearer when I share the gold ones shortly.
