There are plenty of 1922 no d pennies in heaven. Maybe these people didn't know that we have a limited amount on earth.

If the lettering is raised on the reverse, it may have been a pressed copper piece to for the letters and then glued to the altered reverse. But that is hard to tell for sure from the image.

It is one piece. However, it appears as though something snugged into the grooves around the reverse periphery. Pretty cool piece anyway. I know Mark didn't pay much for it.

That's what I like about this kinda stuff. You can fancifuly impose your own plausible history on it... Like that show Diggers where they think every colonial item they dig up was touched by George Washington

Dang that strong 2 on the end is a good sign, doesn't seem to be altered in any way (ground off the D or what have you). But I can only spitball at this topic, cool coin!
