Basically the only coins I can afford from the 1800's are low balls But anyway, I think they are quite fun! I just wanted to share some of mine with you all! Please post your low ball coins, too! 1803 Large Cent 1882 (1?) Nickel

I think I've got the attribution of your 1803 down to 3 possibilities: S-245, 247, or 258. So you see, the coin may be worn, but it is identifiable.

There's virtually no downside on lowballs. Many counterstamped coins tend to be regarded as such.

Here's one. Certified by PCGS as PO01 - one of only 3 in that grade in the classic head Half Cent series.

Here's my favorite lowball ... an 1855 Flying Eagle cent, a pattern coin: This is also likely a low population piece like yours, ProfLiz.

That is very cool, ExoGuy! Surprising to have a pattern that circulated down to such a low grade. I would have thought someone would have picked it out of circulation and saved it as an oddity long before it got to FR02.

ProfLiz ... I doubt that it circulated, like your large cent. I suspect that it was more than likely a pocket or lucky piece, shown as an oddity. In comparison, the 1856 Flying Eagle is common, what with many hundreds more having been struck. The most valuable lowball that I've found for $3 in a dealers junk box was a holed Seated quarter, engraved with simple initials as a love token. It was an 1873-CC quarter with VF details. That was thirty years or so ago. Lesson learned ... It pays to look at lowballs!

Stormy, the last coin looks like an 1880 British half penny

I'm not sure how you get 1880 for Stormy's British coin, NickelCollector; I can make out GEORGIUS in the obverse legend on the left. The only George with the BRITANNIAR REX FID DEF reverse was George IV.
