You would KNOW if it was a bullet-shot Morgan. I think something hit this one. What it was is up to the imagination, but it wasn't a bullet.

Yeah , I'm against the bullet theory. probably PMD other than a bullet.

I believe the crater would be smoother. That said, what this is I have no idea.

If everyone here sends me a morgan, I will test fire different rounds under varying conditions, then compare the results.
Trust me.

I have to agree w/ gymcoachdon & SSK... what the heck difference does it make? PMD is PMD. Since anyone w/ a firearm (I've dozens...) can make a "BSM" (ah yes; a new acronym!) I must put it in the "racketeer V nickle" catagory; i.e. who knows when, where, or who did it? So the added (or more likely detracted) value is, well, without importance.

I'll shoot one for you next time I'm at the range... sitting still of course. For the aerial targets, you would have needed Ad (Adolph) Topperwein. He lived here in Texas and did exhibition shooting for Winchester from the teens, up until 1950 or so. http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/f...r&GRid=18138Or Herb Parsons who took over after that. https://books.google.com/books?id=t...r%22&f=false He shot holes in these tokens all day long. I suppose he could have used Morgans but that would have gotten really expensive! There's a hole through it but most likely these were supplied by UMC (Union Metallic Cartridge Co.)

You could simply dig out some of the metal inside that depression. Then take it to a metalurgical analysis place and have it tested for GSR, Gun Shot Residue. Now such an analysis should only cost a few hundred dollars but may well be worth if. For example IF someone had a bullet from say The Lone Ranger and this example compared with his bullets, you'ld have something.
