Thats an interesting one coinmasters-not sure on this one tho-part looks like a gouge part looks like a crack

I was thinking maybe a mark on the planchete before the coin was pressed?

I'm thinking a foreign object or just a crack. Hopefully an expert will let us know. The pictures aren't the greatest, but it is raised.

Crack would effect the letters and so would of a foreign object so I'm thinking the planchet damage like tweak mentioned

Oh wait,you said it's raised-so mabi it's damage on the die,don't think a crack tho-but like you said one of the resident experts should be along...

Have you given it a soak in acetone. It may clean away since there is a color change that seems to go with it.
