It looks Roman to me. I'm sure Athalbert or someone else can tell you which emperor.

and unfortunately I found it so along with many medieval coins would not want to be wrong but the face should be a woman

Itīs a spanish denarius of Augustus, minted in emerita augusta (merida).
Very scarce...
