Is the small copper with a value of 1/8, KM #59 really 1/16 of a real? Where did Pilones come from? I had a problem uploading the images.

I never know how to name those denominations :D
Pilon, tlaco .

Denomination 1/8 = 1/16 de real = 1/8 de pilon
Denomination 1/4 = 1/8 de real = 1/4 de tlaco ? = 1 cuarto ?
Denomination 2/4 = 1/4 de real = ?

If someone has proper infos on those, I'll gladly clean my database :D

(just asked to Mexican friends, will post here)

Got the info !

The final series of Spanish Colonial copper coinage issued by the Mexico City mint came some time later during the reign of Ferdinand VII. In total three types were produced for this series in the denominations of 1/16 Real (1/8 Pilon), 1/8 Real (1/4 Tlaco) and 1/4 Real (2/4 Tlaco) with various dates known for each type. These are by far the most common of any of the Spanish Colonial copper issues; however, they are extremely rare in high grade.

1) 1/16 Real (1/8 Pilon)
2) 1/8 Real (1/4 Tlaco)
3) 1/4 Real (2/4 Tlaco)

While looking for the info, I remember reading an article stating that the old Krause got the value wrong, and doubled the value of each denomination (1/8, 1/4 and 1/2 instead of the above).
I'll mail you the article if you want (message me your mail)
