Another coin from my uncleaned batch that I got. This one has turned out pretty good, and the reverse is a lot better then the obverse which is okay since that is where the mint mark is. I have this as RIC VII 186, but not exactly sure if that is right. Any help is appreciated.

Wait did I read the title right? AE3? That has got to be the smallest coin I have heard of!

AE3 represents coins between 17 and 21mm in diameter. If its smaller than 17mm it is an AE4.

It seems like the AE1, 2,3,4 designations are specific to LRBs, and people designate earlier bronze coins by AE and millimeter size. Can anyone explain when this changes chronologically for bronze coins? Or is it just that different collectors and dealers use different terminology?

I am curious too, I said it was Ae3 because it is 17mm or 18mm, hard to get exact. I am still trying to learn the correct terms.

That was the "Mionnet" scale, a sistem to classify ancient coins using their diameters.
I´m sure that you must have seen one...
are a lot of circles of differents diameters
