Hello! I usually use my iPhone 4s to take photos of coins, and it works pretty well. However, it literally takes 15 min. to transfer the images (my ACER doesn't want to open up device explorer for some reason). So, long story short I want to use my Sony Cyber Shot DSC-W710. It's not very good at taking close up photographs (maybe its me), but here are some I managed to squeeze off. Most of them were blurry, so I took the best. Any tips or tricks would really help! Thanks!

My recommendation would be to find someone who has a tripod you can borrow. Borrow, because you will find things you like or don't like as you practice. Next would be getting lights that you can easily move around to see the different effects lighting angle has on the picture.
The tripod will eliminate the blur in the pictures. Also don't force the issue of close-ups, take what the camera gives you, and crop after. Then after practicing, and learning the limitations of your set-up, you will have a better idea of what you should buy, if you choose to delve deeper.

When I take images using my iPhone, I email the pictures to myself to avoid plugging the phone into my computer to manually move the images.

The iPhone is capable of taking great images of coins, and there are a few threads on the forum that really highlight it's capabilities.

Make sure to set the camera on macro "flower icon". I use the window sill and natural light without a tripod and get ok pics.
