WOW! I understand folks who love lowballs, but this damaged one is rough. At some point it just isn't collectible anymore, in my opinion. Your thoughts?

I agree, although, I guess to someone who has a hole to fill in their collection and doesn't have much money will have to settle on something on the PO - aG range. The real question is, who the heck decided it was a good idea to polish a PO draped bust dime?

Well, it is an R4 variety and the key date to the Heraldic Eagle series of these dimes.....

If it's the only one you could find to complete a set, not much else you could do.

I agree. Who knows how bad this coin looked before it was cleaned up. You can't make it any worse by cleaning it. This is one case where cleaning a coin can't hurt. Still not sure that I want it...

Heritage is an auction company, not a dealer. Lot could be a tie-in with a larger consignment.

It sold for $329 including buyer's premium. I sincerely hope the buyer enjoys the coin, it just seems like there isn't much there to enjoy.... I have no doubt it was part of a larger consignment, my understanding is that you can't consign with Heritage unless the combined value of your items if $5,000 or more.

Just think, at R.4 this is the most common 1802 Dime variety....

This is what you have to buy if you want to own an issue where AG-3 is a $1000 coin. All things considered, it doesn't look too bad.
Rest in Peace

Totally disagree, Thundercoin. I love worn and beat up coins, I love to imagine their stories.

I love worn and beat up coins too... but there is a line where it becomes just a piece of metal to me. This one is across that line.

I have seen worse. Regardless, this particular coin is out of my depth so my opinion is likely irrelevant.

Granted, it's not all bent and cut up, but the fact that it was polished makes it so bad.
