True Acetone should take the tape off. HOWEVER, there are some things to remember doing this. I'm not sure if a search of this web site will find more explanations of Actone but if not, note the following:
You can obtain Acetone from almost any paint department in any store such as
Walmart,
Kmart, etc.
Do not use the Acetone until tested for purity. Pore some out on a clean, glass dish and allow to evaporate. If there is any whitish residue, discard that batch as contaminated. Even the insides of the container, if metalic and internally coated, can eventually absorb some of the internal materials and the solution becomes contaminated. This dissolved material will now attack your coins.
If using Acetone always used a well cleaned GLASS container, never platic or metal. Allow the taped coin to sit in the container of Acetone for as long as possible. The Acetone will not effect metal.
Use glass prongs, tongs, etc to put the coin in and take out. Do not use plastic or metal utensils.
DO NOT RINSE WITH TAP WATER. Tap water everywhere is different. Some contain Florine, Chlorine, Sodium and who knows what else. If your tap water is run throught a water softener it is now containing Salt (Sodium Chloride), not good for your coins. Use only distilled water to soak any coins. Do not rub dry. Use a hair type blow dryer on warm, not hot, setting to dry coins.
However, if that fails, try an Acetaline Torch.
