Hello, I am seeking opinions on, IF any, the Amazingly Collectible PCGS sample slabs. I would like to know, A, Are there any sample slab collectors here too, B, Just what do you believe or treat or feel the rare sample slabs are?

I am seeking opinions other than the site, pcgs sampleslabs.com, Which show slabs and give an awesome picture and short story for each slab, I have tried to contact " people " involved with that site and well, that was then, years ago and thought I would seek these answers to these questions about another collectible in the Numismatic World... Ps, I saw not long ago on the bay, some of the listed slabs from that site, auctioned off for Very respectable premiums, this area of collectables looks to be trading Very Strongly....... Anyone?

The classic book is Conder101s 2003, but it's long out of print. You can borrow it from the ANA library if you are a member.

The late Cameron Kiefer's site sampleslabs.com remains up as a memorial (and is mirrored at Heritage).

David Schwager has a book due out in September and an article in this month's The Numismatist. See SampleSlabBook.com

I collect sample slabs but only those with a cent. To date I have something like 80 or so. Here are a couple recent acquisitions

I don't collect any slabs but then too, I don't collect full sized boats either. However, this sounds like just one more item to be collected. Any collection is a good hobby so if it's fun, it's fun.

I can see a growing market for these in the future. Some are already bringing very nice premiums. Study up on the available information and you might be able to cherry pick a rarer sample slab from someone who doesn't know exactly what he has.

I keep trying to get David to join, his Sample Slab book is due out in September (and he has a free sample chapter up at his site, http://SampleSlabBook.com) as well as the cover article in this months The Numismatist.

I've been feeding him photos of some of my odder finds - although my most recent find (a previously unreported Mississippi NGC Sample) (for $1 at the TNA show in Arlington last weekend) came too late for inclusion. He's taking submissions and info for the 2nd edition.

If you figure most coin collectors are somewhere on the scale of mildly crazy to totally nuts. Slab collectors are like Uncle Milty who is only allowed out on weekends if closely supervised. And Sample Slab Collectors - we don't even get weekend passes...

I'm no longer the expert when it comes to the Sample slabs. I haven't done much work with them since the original slab book came out and I would say that David has far surpassed me on the Sample slabs now.

A dealer friend told me, "The last time I was asked for a sample, I was at the doctor's office."

I am still wondering after searching the Net, Taking in ANY and all information I can obtain and wade through to reach some conclusions about these Beauties... I would like to know what people think about " the rare ones ", which ones You believe are in and believe deserve that RARE designation status, Anyone else?I mean the all zero's slabs are just unique and I believe they command a strong premium, The Swiss Franc, The Japanese Yen, Etc!!!
