Can anyone assist me with this coin? Its this considered a cameo color? Can some one take a look around the dots and see if this is considered an error. Thank you

Cameo is not really a "color". It is an overall look where the portrait is frosted in appearance and the fields are dark, mirror like. Many newer proof coins exhibit this characteristic. Older coins are more rare to find in "Cameo" appearance.

Oh, and the JFK Half you posted is not Cameo, imo.

What you are seeing on the dots appears to be small die cracks or chips. Pretty common as the die nears the end of its life, and don't really add to the value.

Here's an example of what a cameo will look like if you angle it just right: http://coins.about.com/od/coingradi...of-Coins.htm

No cameo. Just a few die cracks. Keep it if you like it.

Cameo is a designation that refers to proof coins, not regular circulation coins. This is not a proof coin. It is a simple circulated 79P.

Not at all smokeriderdon. Circulation coins struck on newly polished dies have a cameo effect. Look at all the PL and DMPL morgans. Those are not proof, they are circulation strikes that are proof like.

Silver, those are proof LIKE designations, not cameo. PL, and DMPL. The designation of CAMEO is the issue. And that is a designation for proof coins.

Can one say that DMPL Morgan has a cameo look to it? Sure. But it is still a designation meant for proof coins.
