Supposedly used in the Louisianna Territory. This one apears to have seen a lot of use but still an acceptable piece. How would you grade it.

I'm going to give this coin an EAC grade and a market grade. As far as EAC, I'll say EAC 5. Market grade I'm willing to go a bit higher, VG-8. This is a very cool coin. I don't see many. The counterstamp is awesome as well.

IMHO, Celticsoul nailed the grade .... VG details in the general marketplace. Still, a cool colonial issue.

This issue, with the counterstamp signifying a lower denomination, must have experienced extensive circulation, as surviving examples are typically seen in lower grades. The OP's piece looks like a metal detector find, and if so, it would be interesting to know where it was dug.

ExoGuy-----This was not a detector find, at least not by me. I've had it for at least 30-35 years and probably obtained it from a dealer junk box which were common back then before ebay and the internet.
