I have several art bullion bars that I paid a few dollars over spot for. This Canada flag bar is nice but I agree with CC-Ottawa. It is too much of an art bar and about $120.00 too expensive. I'll pick one up in about 6 or 7 years for spot plus 5 or 6.

Mintage might be lower when the RCM issues through annual report next year based on lower sales.

There is certainly no question as to country of origin with the flag and the words Canadian and canadien on the reverse.
But it is not spelled out. So does this make it collectable? No
If you did have the flag coin collection and absolutely had to have them all, then this rectangular coin is a must have.

I would rather buy the Flag set with coloured flag quarter and silver dollar with four family members for $99.95. Only 20,000 mintage.

Even no doubt in this.
RCM catalog describes the rectangular shape as not common, but people said truth - this rectangular is close to bullion bars. Good example of RCM rectangular coin is $3 Beaver and 2011 wildlife (Owl, Seal and ...)

As others do, I believe the RCM has already issued more interesting/attractive coins celebrating the 50th anniversary of Canada's flag.
I've purchased the various versions of the silver dollar plus the $3 silver coin - I think those are enough "flag coins" for me!

Yeah, I bought the colored $25x$25 but this is special because it's rectangular.

Just noticed that this one doesn't have the word "Canada" on it. Has there ever been a 'coin' issued without the country name?

True, I guess as the word "Canadian" was already selected they decided not to include the word "Canada".

I think the Mint tries to justify the price releasing a very unusual $50 face value. So, $50 plus $ 40 (2 silver oz) you have $90 in value (not exactly but kinda...) .

One of the GTA dealers told me the same about 2011 Timber Wolf $5 bullion coin.

But I can't understand the reason behind this calculation.

I just don't understand the pricing rational by the RCM sometimes. Sometimes the mint does something smart like the $3 flag at 29.95 with good results and brisk sales. Then it does this at 159.95. Don't get it. I just don't see this "coin" moving at all.

Above my pay grade but I can't help thinking that this would make a really nice key chain. Have a bezel that would go around the case to keep it safe.
Very nice pocket piece.

TheCcoinHunter - the $3 Flag coin was 1/4 ounce so it would take 6 of those to add up to the 1.5 ounces.
6 x $30 = $180.00 per 1.5 ounces. No deal there, but I like the design of the 1/4 ounce Flag coin.
This rectangle at $159.95 per 1.5 ounces is a better deal than the Flag on a cost per gram basis.
However, neither is a great deal as the price of silver is around $20 per ounce, but we pay extra
for the overhead, the design, the mint having a monopoly in Canada is all part of the mark up.

I am trying to put together a complete set of Canada flag coins, to do so I am going to have to pay the piper.
I think that it will be a great set, will make a custom display case for all. It has been a bit of a challenge to get all of them up to this point.

Does this bar have a denomination anywhere? On the edge? It's an odd piece. I don't see how it can be called a "coin" without a denomination.
