Out of my element with the likes of these.

I believe the specimen to the left, which is a normal diameter for the type, was machine struck at the Kwangtung mint from 1890 to 1908. Very ordinary and low value item so far as I can determine. The smaller version on the right is something I haven't seen before, although that doesn't mean it's not equally common. I actually ran across these at two different places, but perhaps there's reason to keep them together?

I am not quite sure if it is exactly the same, but check out Sap's response. It looks like the same coin I found but just from a different era probably.

Well, yours is much older, and cast as had been done and would be done for centuries. My two were produced by being struck, which was first done during the Kuang-hsu period (an innovation for the traditional Chinese cash coin and a change not readily accepted at the time).

They are both genuine coins. As you can probably tell by the identical designs on the reverses, they were both struck at the Kwangtung (Guangdong) Province mint. The smaller one is later, from the reign of the last emperor; you'll find it listed just beneath the first one in the Krause catalogue, or here on NGC.

Yes, I had surmised that much. The minuscule size is what threw me - at 16.7mm it's definitely smaller than other downsized ones from Emperor Puye's reign. But I should've picked up on the inscription that clearly places it in that subsequent 1909-12 time frame. I kind of like the notion of having a "The Last Emperor" cash coin.
