I'll call this one "Airtite Holmes and the Mystery of the Dark Princess."

Not sure what happened to this poor IHC. Perhaps she took an unwanted bath in some sort of something, or perhaps chemistry decided to show up.

If you only look at the good parts of the coin, it's a strong AU, full diamonds, sharp.

The problem is that you can't only look at the good parts of the coin.

Help Mr Holmes out here; be a Watson and tell me what REALLY happened (and why?) Should he send out for the Verdi-Care team?

First two scans are the obverse & reverse. Third scan is an "inverse color" scan that shows the details much better, and shows the area of damage.

I've seen Indian Heads corrode green, red, blue and every color of the rainbow. It was just exposed to something corrosive.

It's rather bizarre; I dig coins like this often while detecting but usually the entire surface is covered, not just a small portion.

A shame, too, as it would be a pretty nice coin otherwise.
