I don't even know the proper terminology for this, so bear with me. As a new collector, I was surprised to find out that in 1909, there was an Indian Head cent, and the Lincoln Cent produced by the mint. Then I was reading about Peace dollars, and there was an overlap there as well. What would be the proper terminology for this, and how often has it happened? I was thinking it would be a cool collection, but not if it only happened twice, lol.

This has happened quite often. Everything from large cents to nickels to dollars. Spend some quality time with your RedBook and you'll discover many overlaps.

Well, if you care about world coins then Sweden has it too.
During 1920-1927 and 1940-1947 a wartime nickel version of the 10-, 25- and 50 öre was issued alongside with ordinary silver issues. Thus, dual types were made under a pretty long period of time.
