Hello and welcome.

I'm afraid we'll probably need a little more information from you that might help.

How big is it? And/or, how heavy is it?

Is there anything on the other side?

I'm assuming, from your use of the word "found" and your father's apparent certainty that it's silver, that it was found with a metal detector. Correct? If not, how was it tested for silver?
Don't say "infinitely" when you mean "very"; otherwise, you'll have no word left when you want to talk about something really infinite. - C. S. Lewis

Thank you Sap!! Those are all valid and great questions. I personally live in Texas. I will get the size and weight if possible right away. I will also ask for a picture of the other side. It was found while he was metal detecting.

Ok- update. It was found digging around an old graveyard for coin change machines that used to be at a local grocer. There was also a 1964 silver dime and a few odd pennies. Both sides are exactly the same. My father will be taking it Monday to a coin dealer to see if there is anything else he can find out and to have it tested for certainty.

What I am really curious about is the shape of the symbol or emblem.....like what would you call it? A crescent? A cornucopia?

Based on the relief of the coin, this is almost certainly modern, i.e. 1950s or newer. Is he 100% sure that it's silver? From the picture it looks cupronickel or a similar alloy. Offhand, my best guess would be some sort of new age group or fraternal society(if silver), or (if it's base metal) an arcade or car wash token.
