My wife gave me a nice birthday gift today (Dec. 27).

It's a $20 National Currency note, series of 1929, almost uncirculated. Printed for the First National Bank of Paonia, Colorado. Serial number F000110A. Another number printed on the front is 6671. The White House is pictured on the reverse.

The note is special because Paonia is located only 30 miles from where we live in Delta. Paonia is a part of Delta County.

I am very new to banknote collecting, so if anyone has information regarding my new note, I would appreciate learning more.

Very cool Gary. I have the Bible at home for NBN's and their current value and population. I think the book lists prices for fine condition only as a base. If I remember, I will look it up for you tonight when I get home.

Sounds like a nice note. Low serial number, smaller town, and Colorado is one of the lower populated states. Probably not a super rare note, but worth more than $100, I would say.

Time for some fruit Gary. I mean a lot of fruit!!

I looked up your note in my book. Judging by the serial number, this is considered a type 1 20 dollar note. Serial number that have letters before and after the number are type 1. They also have the bank number(6671 in this case), at two locations on the obverse in black. Type 2 will have it listed in four locations, with two of them being black, and two brown. There are 5 large and 36 small notes known to exist. They do not break it down further for the small size as to which is which is which in regards to population between the $10 and $20 type 1 and the $10 and $20 type 2. But with only 36 known to exist, yours is pretty rare. If it is in fact AU, you have quite a specimen.

Are you sitting down? Do you know what you wife paid for this?

Value in this book is based on "Fine" condition. A $20 1929 type 1 note has a value of $500 in fine condition. I told you it was time for fruit. I would love to see pictures!!

Thanks so much for the information.

I knew my wife Pat (MountainLady) had saved for months, so I did know she spent several hundred for it.

Again, great information. I really appreciate it.

New Year's Resolution -- I will learn how to post pictures!
