A coin collector may never ask the question because it just seems natural to them. The average person may wonder why as well. A collector in another area may not understand all the reasons why. The question is why do people buy coins and spend what could seem like outrageous prices for them. Three top numismatists give their perspective why they think it is worthwhile to buy coins.

Within the first minute David hit it right on the head for me. To be able to look beyond what you have in your hand and to imagine how it was created, who handled it,how it became, the pedigree all fascinate me. Even more so every day as I dig deeper and deeper into numismatics. To hold a piece of American history and try to fathom what the piece has been through. It is as mind boggling as trying to understand the universe.

There is website called "www.wheresgeorge.com". Some dollar bills get randomly stamped with the website. If you get a bill with that stamp and go to the website, you simply type in what city and state you got the bill (using the serial number on the bill) and it will show you everywhere that bill has been in the past, provided those who got it logged in as well. Some of the journeys these bills make is amazing.

If we could have traced the jounrey of some of our coins, that would be an amazing thing to see.
