First time poster here so forgive me if this has already come up.

I have this 1876 One Cent coin but the obverse is not like any other I've been able to find on the web. Please take a look at the images and let me know if anyone can provide any information about it?

Thanks!

It's too bad the coin is rather battered, but that might also give some clue to its origin. I don't see this in my book of possible patterns, and my guess is the obverse surface pattern has been tooled post-mint. One way to know for sure is to put it under a scope and look for evidence of the prior design and lettering. Just a guess--have fun researching!

That looks very much to me like a Canadian one cent piece, that someone decorated the obverse with those intricate patterns.

It's certainly interesting, though. I'd hang on to it, just because it's different.

Thanks for the input everyone! I'll try to find someone local who can analyze the coin as suggested. Now I'm really curious!

Its a canadian cent ,, but the design on the obverse is definitly post mint art work ,, its a cool piece.

and one that I would keep ,not because it is valuable but because its interesting .
